Feel Secure About Your Kids Being in the Water This Summer

Tri-City Splashtastic Water Safety Day is on Saturday, May 26 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. This FREE event will be held at the Dan Oden Swim Complex at James Logan High School. Kids will learn a fun way how to be safe in the water and parents will learn important things about being around the water as well.  Raffle prizes will also be awarded!  For more info call aquatics coordinator Zach Wolfe at 510-675-5445 or the Kennedy Center at 510-675-5329.

Dumbarton Bridge to Close for Memorial Day Weekend
The Dumbarton Bridge is undergoing a seismic retrofit and will be closed to all motor vehicles, pedestrians and bicycle traffic starting at 10 pm on Friday, May 25. The bridge will remain closed until 5 am on Tuesday, May 29. To get to and from the Peninsula on Memorial Day weekend, travelers are encouraged to use the Hayward/San Mateo Bridge or Route 237 in the South Bay as alternatives.
Sports Center Hosts May 19 Table Tennis Tournament
naThe Union City Sports Center will be hosting a Table Tennis Tournament on Saturday, May 19, 2012 for ages 12 and up. Winners will receive a FREE 20 Visit Table Tennis Pass. Summer Day Camps 2012
Union City Leisure Services Summer Day Camps offer children ages 3-16 an opportunity to enjoy a traditional summer day camp experience which includes a variety of fun activities, arts-n-crafts, games, sports, drama, hiking and nature activities. Online registration now open. Walk-in registration begins June 4.
3 vs 3 Basketball Tournament

Join us for some fun in the sun at the 3 vs 3 Basketball Tournament. It takes place on Saturday, May 19th, starting at 10 am at Contempo Park, 32300 Meteor Drive. Eight teams (boys, girls, coed) per division. Ages 12 to 24. For more information please call 510-453-8418 or 510-453-6956.

Tennis Camps and Lessons This Summer at James Logan

UCLS is now offering NEW tennis classes and camps for people of all ages through new tennis instructor Kirsten Pacis. Have Your Child Star on the Stage This Summer

UCLS will be offering a special youth theatre workshop during the week of June 26-30 at the new James Logan Performing Arts Center.  The workshop is for all aspiring actors and actresses ages 8-12 years old.

Learn How to Swim with UCLS This Summer

UCLS will be offering lessons and classes for all ages this summer at the Dan Oden Swim Complex located at James Logan High School.  The summer session starts on Monday, June 25 and runs for eight weeks until August 18.

Youth Yoga
Let your child experience the world of yoga! Children will work through yoga poses which can instill calmness, confidence and balance. Yoga also helps children develop better body awareness, self control, flexibility and coordination.
Energy Upgrade California
Learn about Energy Upgrade California - a new statewide program that saves homeowners money, reduces energy use, and creates jobs by connecting property owners with trained contractors to complete energy efficiency upgrades. We will provide homeowners with information on how to obtain up to $4,000 in rebates on a home energy efficiency upgrade.
Transient Occupancy Tax
Per Chapter 3.18 (Transient Occupancy Tax) of the Union City Municipal Code, each hotel in Union City is required to collect from their guests a transient occupancy tax based on the guest’s daily room rate.  Full program information, including quarterly reporting and remittance forms for Union City hotels, are now available online.
Second Quarter Parking Permits Now on Sale
Now available for purchase online is the latest Area S Permit, which is valid through June 31, 2012. An Area S Permit provides unlimited parking in four locations within a short walking distance of the BART station. A permit costs $120 for three months, or only about $2.00 per commute day.
FREE Green House Calls for Union City Homeowners
In partnership with Union City and PG&E, the California Youth Energy Services Program will be serving Union City homeowners and renters this summer with FREE Green House Calls.  Green House Calls are energy efficiency retrofits performed by professionally trained local youth Energy Specialists. 
 
Put Away Trash and Recycling Carts
Remember, Union City's Municipal Code requires trash and recycling containers to be removed from the curb within 24 hours of service and stored in a location that is screened from public view, such as a fenced side yard, garage or other place not visible from the public right-of-way. Thank you for your cooperation.
Pedestrian & Bicycle Master Plan

The Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plan provides for a citywide system of pedestrian and bicycle facilities and a variety of programs to allow for safe, efficient, and convenient walking and bicycling within the City.  The City recently updated the Master Plan in January 2012. 

Videos of Political Forums Now Online
City Hall in Union City was the site of two political forums sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Fremont, Newark and Union City. The first forum was on Measure H, the proposed New Haven Unified School District Parcel Tax. The second forum brought together candidates for the 20th Assembly District. The League recorded both events and are now available for viewing by clicking on the following links:

City Smoking and Tobacco Regulations
The City of Union City promotes a healthy living environment and protects non-smokers from exposure to secondhand smoke where they live, work, and play. In November 2010, the City Council restricted smoking in rental complex units, unenclosed common areas, and outdoor dining spaces. Also, Tobacco retailers need to obtain a local Tobacco Retailer License.

Potential Summer Construction Delays on Decoto Road
Between June 1st and August 30th, motorists traveling on Decoto Road near Kennedy Community Park may experience some delays due to work associated with the BART retrofit project. Updated project information to be posted on the City website as it becomes available. For additional details, please contact John Flood at 675-5388.
