Our program will introduce you and your child to the importance of literature exposure at a young age, while providing socialization with other families. This FREE program meets weekly and includes a variety of fun learning activities such as art, music, dancing, cooking, blocks, storytelling, and puzzles. |

| Station District Draft Environmental Impact Report |
 The City has released the Draft Environmental Impact Report (DEIR) for the Station District Mixed-Use Development Project. The 45-day public comment period is from August 6, 2010 – September 20, 2010. The DEIR analyzes the build-out of Blocks 2 and 3 in the Station District, which includes up to 973 residential units, up to 37,500 square feet of ground-floor, retail-ready space along 11th Street and up to 6,200 square feet of business condominiums along the proposed Pedestrian Promenade. |

| New Parking Permit Now on Sale |
 Now available for purchase online: the latest Area S Permit, which is valid through the end of September. An Area S Permit provides unlimited parking in four locations within a short walking distance of the BART station. A permit costs $120 for three months, or only about $2.00 per commute day. |

| Seeking Citizen Representation on Economic Development Advisory Team |
 The City is forming an Economic Development Advisory Team and is seeking citizen representatives to participate. The purpose of the Team is to create a professional forum that advises City staff on the City’s marketing strategy. The Team will draw upon the experience and skills of citizens, local businesses, chamber, and regional organizations, and will meet either monthly or bi-monthly on an ongoing basis. Applications are due August 30, 2010. |

In response to an unprecedented decline in City revenues that has forced layoffs, reductions in force and elimination of City programs and services, virtually all non-sworn, civilian City employees have agreed to concessions that amount to a 4.5% reduction in pay. Agreement has also been reached to establish a two-tiered retirement system for all new Miscellaneous (i.e., non-sworn) employees. 
The Union City Civic Center Parking Lot will be closed on September 17-19 for repaving work. Visitors and library patrons will need to park on the streets where allowed. Please call 510-675-5310 for more information or questions.
