Demographics

Union City has long been a center for commerce, going back to its roots in 1846, when a group of entrepreneurs moved into an abandoned Franciscan mission barracks. Over the next few years the group expanded the area by building wharves, warehouses, businesses, farms and irrigation systems.

Throughout the 1990's the city prospered and grew as a gateway to Silicon Valley, offering the attractive combination of affordable housing, good schools and one of the area's most diverse populations. As it has since the beginning, Union City continues to offer businesses an unequalled location for transportation options, including the Bay Area's most significant acreage adjacent to BART and rail lines.

Today Union City looks to an equally bright future, as our diversified economy, central location and multitude of transportation options continue to make it an attractive home for individuals and business.
