Intermodal Station District

At the heart of Union City’s economic future is the Intermodal Station District, a visionary project that provides the City with an opportunity that is unique in the Bay Area.

On November, 13, 2007, the City of Union City, BART and AC Transit officials broke ground a massive construction project that will transform the Union City BART Station into a spectacular, world-class, solar-powered, intermodal transit hub. Years in the planning, the vision for the Union City Intermodal Station is that of a key connection point for commuters and other travelers -- a point where they will be able to board and transfer between BART, passenger rail (Capitol Corridor, Dumbarton Rail, ACE) and bus (AC Transit and Union City Transit) services. This green-friendly station will include a 16-bay bus facility with solar cells on a 700-foot long canopy, an expanded BART station and improved access for pedestrians, bicyclist, buses and autos. This phase is expected to be completed by 2010.

Development of the Intermodal Station District will transform former industrial acreage adjacent to the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) station into a vibrant, intergrated downtown neighborhood that will enable residents to live, work, shop and play in the same area.

A Bold Vision
The Intermodal Station District plan will transform the area around the Union City BART Station into a dynamic transit orient community with new retail, job centers, housing, and public amenities
