The Fire Prevention Division has the responsibility for fire code enforcement, public safety education, fire origin and cause determination and weed abatement. The goal of the Fire Prevention Division is to reduce or eliminate fire and life safety hazards in Union City by heightening fire and safety awareness. While it is the specific responsibility of the Fire Prevention Division to institute, teach, and monitor sound fire prevention practices, a fire prevention program also provides the information necessary to recognize hazardous conditions and take appropriate action before such conditions result in a fire emergency.
The Fire Prevention portion of our web site is dedicated to the unsung heroes of the fire service who have saved untold thousands of lives without Medals of Valor and the related fanfare. You won't read their names in the paper or see them getting awards from the City Council but there're heroes just the same. They are the men and women of Fire Prevention. They save lives and property by planning ahead, teaching fire safety and enforcing codes. It's exciting work that happens to be worth many, many pounds of cure.
