React Fast to Fires

If you hear a fire alarm get out and stay out.  Smoke detectors and fire alarms protect you from fire.  They sound an alarm when it's time to escape.  Adults in your home should test smoke detectors once a month so everyone in the home knows what to listen for.  Twice a year the batteries should be changed in your smoke detector and replaced with new one's. Every home should have an escape plan.  Mark at least two exits in your home to get out of every room.  Plan and practice your escape routes before a fire occurs.  When you hear a fire alarm or smoke detector stop what you are doing, follow your escape plan, don't stop for anything, and once your out of you house or building STAY OUT!

Smoke is poisonous!  If there is smoke between you and your exit turn around and use another way out.  If you have to escape through smoke, crawl on you hands and knees and keep you head about 12 inches above the floor.  The air will be cleaner and easier to breathe.

If your clothes catch on fire, STOP, DROP, and ROLL, place your hands over your face and roll the flames out.
