The City has released a draft Climate Action Plan for public review. Our Climate Action Plan will serve as a blueprint to identify ways in which Union City residents, businesses and government can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to global warming. Please click on the link below to view the draft Climate Action Plan. The City will also be sponsoring a community meeting to provide an opportunity for the public to provides comments on the draft plan or to ask questions. Attend the community meeting and you’ll be entered into a raffle to win a fabulous prize (estimated value $250.00) that will help reduce your carbon footprint!
Union City has joined a growing list of progressive cities in the United States in reducing citywide greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. The Climate Action Plan (CAP) will outline the strategies to reduce these emissions and comply with the target set by the City Council to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent below 2005 levels by 2020.
Building on initiatives and actions already begun by the City, the CAP will describe short, medium, and long-term strategies and related implementation measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions within the community. The measures are broken down into six action areas that include: Land Use, Transportation, Building Energy, Waste, Water and Green Infrastructure. The measures seek to decrease dependency on oil and natural gas use, increase the use of renewable resources, improve air quality, reduce solid waste, and decrease the amount of water and energy required by residents, businesses, institutional uses, and municipal operations.
