Welcome to the Union City Police Department's website. Here you will learn more about the dedicated men, women who are proud to serve a growing and diverse community of more than 70,000 residents.
The Union City Police Department is proud of the quality of service we provide to our community. Our members are hard working professionals dedicated to keeping Union City a safe place to live, work, and raise a family. We accomplish this with our firm commitment to the philosophy of community oriented policing. This philosophy means we partner with the community in identifying and solving problems in order to improve the quality of life for our citizens.
The Union City Police Department was formed in 1966 with twelve police officers and one secretary. As the community has grown, so has the department. Today, we have 81 police officers supported by a full-time and part-time non-sworn professional staff of over 37 employees.
In 2008, the Union City Police Department developed and implemented its Strategic Plan for years 2008 through 2012. The Strategic Plan is a visual roadmap identifying the goals and objectives for the organization and includes strategies designed to enhance the department’s performance and organizational health in the areas of: Community Service, Department Organization, Infrastructure, Personnel Development, Financing (our commitment is to remain fiscally responsible and seek out creative and innovative methods of funding projects, programs, and services) as well as Staffing.
The Police Department is a full service agency providing around the clock services through two divisions, the Field Operations division and the Support Services division.
