| Illegal Dumping
Illegal dumping is the intentional dumping of any waste, whether it is oil, furniture, appliances, trash, litter or landscaping cuttings, etc., upon any public right-of-way, city property or private property, without consent of the owner. Illegal dumping can create public health and environmental concerns.
If you witness someone dumping trash or other items illegally, call 911.
When reporting illegal dumping, please provide the information below. The more information we have, the more likely we can find the person(s) responsible.
- Time, date and location of activity
- Description of the vehicle
- Description of the indvidual(s)
- License plate number
- Make a note of what is being dumped
Also, if someone you hire hauls away materials and then dumps them illegally, YOU may be liable for cleanup costs, as well as the disposal costs. That's why it's a good idea to only do business with companies that are properly permitted and licensed to handle materials, ask the company where it intends to recycle or dispose of the materials, be suspicious of ridiculously low disposal prices, and ask your hauler to show you a receipt from the landfill.
Community help is essential to catching and deterring illegal dumps. |
