2020-21 Proposed Residential Solid Waste Collection Rates

The City Council will conduct a Public Hearing to consider all public comment in support of and in opposition to the proposed solid waste, organic waste and recycling rates increase for FY2020-21.  At the end of the public hearing, if written protests have been submitted on behalf of a majority of the parcels subject to the proposed rates, the City Council will not adopt the proposed rates.

Proposed Single Family Residential rates

Union City residential property owners pay for minimum curbside collection of refuse/organics and recycling by way of assessments which appear on the annual property tax statement. The fees for basic service are based on weekly servicing of a 35-gal garbage cart, a 64-gal recycling cart and a 96-gal organics cart.

Annual Assessments for Single Family Households (3-cart weekly service)

The proposed Recycling assessment includes a $2 per month Recycling Processing Surcharge. Combined the assessments equate to a combined $53.52 per month cost to single family homeowners for weekly servicing of the three (3) carts, or an increase of $1.42 per month compared to the current combined monthly rate for collection services.

Proposed Parcelized Multi-Family Rates 

Parcelized Multi-Family properties (townhomes, condominiums) will pay for servicing of two (2) carts (no organics) based on the following proposed annual assessments.

The proposed rate adjustments equate to a combined $40.67 per month cost to parcelized multi-family homeowners, including the Recycling Processing Surcharge, and result in an increase of $1.10 per month compared to the combined monthly rate for FY2019-20.
