We have many types of parking at and around the Union City BART Station for your needs. These parking options include:

Off-Street Metered Parking

This is the best option if you are an occasional BART rider. Located in City Lot 1 and Lot 2, this pay-by-space option costs $0.50 per hour with a $4 daily maximum. The two parking lots have 796 parking spaces. To pay for parking:

  • Make a note of your space number
  • Go to a parking machine and touch any button
  • Enter number of your parking space
  • Pay with quarters, dollar bills, Visa, Mastercard, or Discovery cards
  • After paying, take your receipt and you're done! No need to display the receipt in your vehicle.

On & Off Street Permit Parking 

This is the most economical option if you are a regular commuter. The City Station District Area S Permit costs $120 per calendar quarter (or about $2 per business day). The Area S Permit offers unlimited parking at a fixed price in City Lot 2 and in on-street locations close to the Union City BART station. See below for how to purchase an S Permit online.

On-Street Metered Parking 

Union City uses Parkmobile for on-street metered parking around the BART station.  Parking meters on Union Square and 11th Street cost $0.50 per hour with no daily maximum and are enforced from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Cost-conscious travelers are encouraged to use one of the other parking options.

Pay-by-phone parking is a $3 flat rate Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the following locations:

Station Center Parking


Public parking is available in the Station Center parking garage. The entrance to the Station Center garage is on Cheeves Way. This is the best place to park for visitors to the Station Center apartments and retail stores. The Station Center parking garage is open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. The cost of the parking is $0.50 an hour with a $3 maximum per 24-hour period. Station Center residents and retail employees may purchase an Area M Parking Permit for $120 per calendar quarter. Parking is enforced 24/7.

BART Parking Lot


BART operates a parking lot the west side of the Union City BART Station entrance. A portion of the BART lot is reserved for BART parking permit holders during morning commute hours. The rest of the spaces in the BART lot may be purchased at a daily rate. For more information please visit BART's Parking website.

As more people use the Union City BART station, parking demand has increased. As a result, commuter parking has overflowed into Union City residential and retail areas next to the BART. To meet the increased need for parking, we now have:
  • Two new parking lots and a parking garage
  • New parking payment machines (including mobile pay) and quarterly parking permits
  • A Parking Enforcement Unit
These additional services should help BART commuters, residents, and nearby businesses.

Area M Permits

 
The Area M Parking Permit is for Station Center residents and retail tenants who have more than one car. The designated parking area for Area M Permits are the lower floors of the parking garage only. Station Center residents who have more than one car must purchase an Area M Parking Permit every three months.

Lot 3, which is the Station Center parking garage is available for public parking with an Area M Permit and parking is enforced 24/7. Hourly parking is also available for $0.50 an hour or $3 per 24-hour period. Public access to the Station Center parking garage is between 8:00 am and 7:00 pm. Parking is enforced 24/7. The parking garage is accessible from Cheeves Way.

  4. Choose payment option: PayPal or Credit Card (Visa, MasterCard, AMEX, Discover) and enter info
  5. Click on Review Order and Continue

Area S Permits


Area S Permits provide unlimited parking in four locations within walking distance of the BART station. A permit costs $120 for three months, or only about $2 per commute day. That's $33 per month less than the BART parking lot permit rate.

Your permit should arrive in the mail within one week of purchase.


Where the Area S Parking Permit is Accepted


You'll find that Area S parking in Lot 2 is often full by 9 a.m. Monday through Thursday. You can use the Area S Parking Permit on northbound Alvarado-Niles Road, Meyers Drive, 12th Street, J Street, and the J Street parking lot. Parking Lot 2 and the streets where the Areas S Parking Permits may be used are highlighted in green.

  • The permit is sold for calendar quarters only.
  • Prices are not prorated.
  • Permits are transferable but not refundable.
  • Hang-tag type permits are hung from vehicle rear view mirror and can be easily moved from one vehicle to another.
