Before you throw something in the garbage, consider if it is really garbage, or if it can be reused or recycled.

  • All items that are collected in your Recycling and Garbage carts should never be disposed of in your Garbage cart.

What’s banned from your Blue Garbage Cart?

  • Inert materials such as dirt, rocks, asphalt, concrete, bricks
  • Construction or building materials
  • Household hazardous waste including paint, batteries, chemicals
  • Electronic waste such as televisions and computers
  • Used motor oil and oil filters
  • Fluorescent light bulbs
  • Medical sharps such as syringes and needles.

  • All non-recyclable and non-compostable materials
  • Styrofoam
  • Broken glass/mirrors (if packaged safely)
  • Broken/non-repairable toys
  • Ceramics
  • Carpet
  • Diapers
  • Pet waste
  • Plastic bags and shrink wrap
  • Wire hangers
