Electronic Waste and Battery Recycling

Electronic waste—computers, VCR's, cell phones, printers, fax machines and much more—has become one of the fastest growing environmental concerns. Each year tons of electronic equipment often containing lead, cadmium, mercury and arsenic, unnecessarily accumulate in landfills.

Curbside collection of e-waste
Electronic waste is accepted as part of Union City’s bulky collection program. To schedule a bulky pickup, call Republic Services at 510.657.3500. Single family and parcelized multi-family properties are eligible for two FREE collections a year.

E-waste drop-off
Tri-CED is a state-certified e-waste collection facility. You may drop off old television sets, computer monitors, keyboards, cell phones and other electronic waste. No appointment necessary. Easy drive-through drop-off.

Battery & Cell Phone Recycling

Curbside collection of common household batteries and cell phones is available in Union City. Accepted items include AAA, AA, C, D, button cell, 9-volt, alkaline, rechargeable, lithium and coin cells, small button-size batteries for watches and hearing aids and all cell phones and cell phone batteries.

  • Call Tri-CED at 510.429.8030 to request a clear plastic zip-lock bag for battery and cell phone recycling along with instructions.
  • Put batteries and cell phones in the bag. For safety reasons, please tape the ends of lithium batteries to prevent combustion.
  • On your regular collection day, place the sealed plastic bag on the ground next to your brown recycling cart (not inside the cart)
  • No car batteries please.
