City Launches COVID-19 Response Grant Program

The City has launched its COVID-19 Response Grant Program that will distribute approximately $440,000 in grants funds and forgivable loans to the community to respond to the impacts of COVID-19. The sources for these funds are Federal Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), CARES Act funding, and a one-time grant from East Bay Community Energy. Residential Rental Assistance Program

Approximately $190,000 of Federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding has been allocated for a Residential Rental Assistance Program for Union City renters affected by the loss of income due to COVID-19. The program will pay for up to two months of back rent (up to $3,500) for households earning up to 80% of area median income.   Application window opens up on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 @ 9 :00 am and closes on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 @ 5:00 pm.  For application information including link to the on-line application, visit www.unioncity.org/COVID19rentalassistance

Road to Recovery Small Business Assistance Program

Approximately $200,000 of Federal CARES Act funding has been allocated to assist small Union City businesses (25 employees or less) recover from and respond to impacts related to COVID-19. Eligible expenses include including past due rent, mortgage, or utilities (up to three months of assistance in arrears) and operational adjustments and / or improvements to support social distancing, sanitation, etc. including, but not limited to, installation of viral guards, touchless card readers, outdoor seating, etc. on a reimbursement basis. These funds are available as forgivable loans of up to $10,000.

Application window opens up on Tuesday, October 6 @ 9:00 am and closes when the City receives 50 applications or Tuesday, October 20 @ 5:00 pm (whichever comes first). For application information including link to the on-line application, visit www.unioncity.org/RoadtoRecovery.

Food Security Grant Program

The City will be using $50,000 in grant funds from East Bay Community Energy (www.ebce.org) to address food security issues within the community. The funds will be provided to Union City based non-profits, community-based organizations, and social service providers who distribute food in the community to support and expand their operations and geographic reach.
