City Launches COVID-19 Response Grant Program

The City has launched its COVID-19 Response Grant Program that will distribute approximately $742,000 in grants funds and forgivable loans to the community to respond to the impacts of COVID-19. The sources for these funds are Federal Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), CARES Act funding, and a one-time grant from East Bay Community Energy. Residential Rental Assistance Program

The City of Union City will be issuing a second round of Residential Rental Assistance program funding for Union City residents who have been struggling financially due to the COVID-19 pandemic and have been unable to pay their rent. Funding for the program is provided by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Block Development Grant (CDBG) program and the CARES Act. The City’s program guidelines have been updated to cover three consecutive months of back rent, up to $5,000, for rental households earning 80 percent of median income ($94,000 for a family of three) who have been impacted by COVID-19. Funds will be paid directly to the landlord. 

The application for the second round of Residential Rental Assistance will open up on March 15, 2021 and will close on March 29, 2021. Road to Recovery Small Business Assistance Program

The City of Union City will be issuing a second round of the Road to Recovery Small Business Assistance Program funding for Small Business’s in the City of Union City who have been directly impacted financially due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Funding for the program is being provided by the CARES Act through the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Community Block Development Grant (CDBG) program. The City’s program guidelines have been updated to cover rent, mortgage, or utilities only for up to three months of assistance in arrears (up to $10,000). The funding will be issued as a grant and applicants will need to meet eligibility requirements. Funds will be paid directly to the landlord and/or utility company. 

The application for the second round of Small Business Assistance will open on March 15, 2021 and will close on March 29, 2021.
