Traffic Unit

The Union City Police Department’s Traffic Unit is part of the Field Operations Division. The Traffic Unit’s primary goal is to keep our community’s roadways safe for motorists and pedestrians.  The Traffic Unit is responsible for investigating vehicle collisions, addressing traffic complaints, educating the public, and enforcing the California Vehicle Code and local municipal ordinances.

The Traffic Unit participates in several multi-agency traffic related enforcement teams. Among those are H.I.T.T. (High Intensity Traffic Targeting), C.O.S.A.C. (Commercial Officers of Southern Alameda County), and T.A.I.T. (Tri-city Accident Investigation Team).

When the Union City Police Department Traffic Unit is fully staffed, there are four (4) Traffic Officers and a Traffic Sergeant.
