The Blotter Highlights ending September 10, 2023

PROACTIVE ENFORCEMENT

On Wednesday, August 30th, at approximately 10:32 pm, officers responded to a shooting in the 33500th block of 7th Street. When officers arrived, they located the victim, who sustained life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds.

ROBBERIES AND ATTEMPTED ROBBERIES

On Tuesday, August 29th, at approximately 1:30 p.m., officers responded to a robbery in the 30000 block of Industrial Parkway. Store employees confronted the suspect as he walked out of the store with stolen meat products, and a struggle ensued. The suspect said he had a firearm and reached towards his waistband. Officers found an individual matching the description of the suspect, and once identified by witnesses, placed him under arrest for robbery.

On Friday, September 1st, at approximately 9:55 a.m., officers responded to an attempted bank robbery in the 34500 block of Alvarado Niles Road. The unarmed suspect entered the bank and asked the teller for money, but got impatient and left on foot, empty-handed.

On Sunday, September 3rd, at approximately 2:38 p.m., four suspects entered a store in the 2600 block of Decoto Road and stole several cases of beer. While exiting the store, one of the suspects pushed the victim and struck her in the head. The suspects fled in a stolen white Kia Sorrento.

On Friday, September 8th, at approximately 4:21 p.m., officers responded to a robbery on Almaden Boulevard and Sloccum Court. The suspects drove up to the victim and convinced him to let them see his watch. When the victim handed over the watch, the suspect placed a rifle on his lap and drove away with the watch. During the investigation, patrol officers identified the suspects involved in the case, and with the assistance of Hayward police officers, they arrested the 16 and 22-year-old suspects and recovered the rifle.

On Saturday, September 9th, at approximately 6:27 a.m., officers responded to a robbery in the 31300 block of Alvarado Niles Road. The suspect entered the business, pointed a handgun at the cashier, and demanded cash from the register. The clerk complied, and the suspect fled on a motorcycle.

POSSESSION OF A FIREARM

On Wednesday, August 30th, at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers responded to a theft in the 1800 block of Whipple Road. The suspect stole beer from a store and then fled in his vehicle. A detective found the car a short time later and detained the driver, who was later positively identified by a witness to the crime. During a search of the vehicle, officers found a loaded revolver under the driver's seat. Officers arrested the suspect for shoplifting and illegal possession of the firearm.

ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON  

On Friday, May 12th, at approximately 5:10 a.m., officers responded to an interrupted auto burglary in the 1500 block of Decoto Road.  The victim found the suspect rummaging through the interior of her vehicle, so she called out to her boyfriend for help.  When her boyfriend tried detaining the suspect, he pulled a knife and slashed the victim's knee.  Officers conducted an area check but did not find the suspect.

On Sunday, May 21st, at approximately 1:20 p.m., officers responded to an assault in the 500 block of F Street.  The victim confronted several suspects who were in the process of stealing his brother’s vehicle. The suspects returned to their car and attempted to hit the victim with it. The victim jumped out of the way and did not sustain any injuries. The suspects were described as four juveniles wearing masks.

WEAPON BRANDISHING

On Saturday, May 20th, at approximately 11:53 p.m., officers responded to a weapon brandishing in the 2100 block of Decoto Road.  The victim told police that he was in an argument with the suspect over parking when the suspect proceeded to brandish a firearm at the victim.  Officers contacted the suspect and ultimately arrested him for weapon brandishing.

GRAND THEFT 

On Saturday, May 13th, at approximately 8:53 a.m., officers responded to a theft report in the 30000 block of Industrial Parkway.  Store employees told police that three suspects stole more than $3,000 worth of tools.  Officers positively identified one of the suspects, found him at a nearby hotel, and arrested him for grand theft.

BURGLARY

On Monday, May 8th, at approximately 3:00 a.m., officers responded to a burglary at a Union Landing business.  The suspect forced entry into the store after closing and stole property.  When officers arrived, the suspect tried fleeing but was eventually caught and arrested.

On Saturday, May 13th, at approximately 2:55 a.m., officers responded to an in-progress burglary in the 400 block of Honolulu Circle.  Officers arrived and called out to the suspects, who fled out the back door and were quickly taken into custody.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

On Sunday, September 3rd, at approximately 1:41 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on Central Ave and Whipple Rd. The driver showed objective signs of being intoxicated and was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

On Monday, September 4th, at approximately 10:18 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop in the 2400 block of Whipple Road. The driver showed objective signs of being intoxicated and failed field sobriety tests. Officers arrested the subject for driving under the influence of alcohol.

On Sunday, September 10th, at approximately 2:45 a.m., officers responded to a collision on Courthouse Drive and Dyer Street. The driver showed signs of intoxication and was later arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
