A virtual ceremony will be held tonight, Tuesday, December 8 at 7:00 PM for the Oath of Office and the Installation of Mayor and the City Council Seat for District 1. The City Council is anticipated to first adopt a resolution declaring the results of the General Municipal Election; then, will transition into the formal oath of office and installation ceremony starting with the Mayor.
Carol Dutra-Vernaci will be sworn in for a third term as Mayor by her brother, Matthew Dutra. Mayor Carol Dutra-Vernaci's public service career started over thirty years ago as a Planning Commissioner before working her way up to serve three terms as City Councilmember, and then, becoming the City’s first woman to be elected Mayor in in 2012.
Gary Singh will be sworn in as the Councilmember for District 1 by former Union City mayor, Mark Green. This will be Councilmember Singh’s second term on the City Council, along with having been a Planning Commissioner from 2006 to 2014.
