City Council Adopts Resolution in Solidarity with AAPI Community

The City of Union City joins cities, counties, and states across the country in affirming its commitment to the safety and well-being of our Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, there has been an increase in reported hate incidents and crimes against AAPI individuals, communities, and businesses, in part due to the harmful and xenophobic rhetoric related to the geographic origins of COVID-19. As a City with a rich and proud diversity, we are deeply alarmed and disturbed by the levels of violence and prejudice against AAPI that is perpetuating across the country. At last week’s City Council meeting, Council voted unanimously to adopt a resolution which denounces this xenophobia and anti-AAPI sentiments and condemns harmful rhetoric and racist acts against the AAPI community. In addition, the Council’s resolution urges our community members to help in observing and furthering this sentiment.
