Veteran's Memorial Dedication

Veterans Day Ceremony: Alameda County Board of Supervisor Valle to Dedicate Veterans Memorial in Union City

The public is invited to attend a special event hosted by the Office of Alameda County Board of Supervisor Richard Valle (District 2) dedicating a new Veterans Memorial on Saturday, November 11th at 10:00 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park located at the corner of Regent Boulevard and Dyer Street in Union City.

The focus of the new Veterans Memorial is a hexahedra granite monument, with each of the six sides representing a different branch of the military – the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, and National Guard. The column is surrounded by memorial bricks that can be individually dedicated to service women and men (more info below on that).

Special features of the memorial dedication event will include the presentation and retiring of colors by the United States Army’s 91st Division, two ceremonial firings from a Howitzer (cannon), and a flyover and landing of Vietnam helicopters. The event will conclude with a BBQ Lunch served by local firefighters.

Special guest speakers include event host Supervisor Richard Valle, Union City Mayor Carol Dutra-Vernaci, Congressman Eric Swalwell and Major General Garrett Yee.

We are asking the media to broadcast a special notice to local residents who live in the area regarding extremely loud noise that will be generated from firing the ceremonial howitzer (twice) and the helicopter flyover/landing. There is no need to call 911 about the noise.

It is encouraged that residents within one square mile of the event keep young children and pets indoors for their safety and comfort. Attendees at the event will be asked to wear complimentary ear plugs that will be handed out at the event.
