November 7, 2018, Union City, CA – On November 6th, Union City residents adopted Measure DD, Union City’s Cannabis Business Tax on the local ballot.
“Residents provide us our direction. It was an important decision for the community to make. We look forward to continuing to work with the community to maintain public safety and quality of life essential services that residents clearly value, in particular amid $5 million in continued State takeaways annually,” said City Manager Tony Acosta.
Measure DD enacts a local Cannabis Business Tax paid only by cannabis businesses at a maximum rate of $12.00 per square foot for cultivation and 6% of gross receipts for other types of businesses. Measure DD ensures cannabis businesses reasonably contributes to maintaining Union City public safety and essential services.
Also on the ballot was Union City’s Measure EE, which voters did not enact. If enacted, Measure EE would have enhanced local control of tax dollars by establishing Union City as a Charter City and enacted a real property transfer tax of $10 per $1,000 paid only by buyers and sellers of homes and commercial properties in Union City.
