Union City, CA - The City of Union City is honored to announce the appointment of Jared Rinetti as Union City's 11th Police Chief. City Manager Tony Acosta recommended the appointment of Rinetti on Tuesday night in a closed session with the City Council, which was unanimously approved. The decision was made in anticipation of Police Chief Darryl McAllister's retirement on Friday, December 14, 2018.
Rinetti has been with the Union City Police Department since 2000, after spending two years as a police officer with the Atherton Police Department. He has held many special positions over the years, including Investigations, Community Policing, Field Training and School Resources. Rinetti has served as a Police Captain for the last five years overseeing both field operations and support services.
Rinetti has a Bachelor's Degree in Administration of Justice, is a graduate of the California Command College and is currently finishing up his M.S. in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership from the University of San Diego.
As a progressive police leader, Rinetti led the development and adoption of the Union City Police Department Strategic Plan in 2015 and has since overseen the implementation of 24 of the plan's 46 strategies. Ensuring that the Department remains progressive and contemporary is of high importance on his priority list.
"I am very excited about the opportunity to serve a police department and community that means so much to me. For nearly 20 years, I have partnered with amazing men and women to improve the safety and quality of life in Union City. That mission has become a passion and I am honored to lead as the future Chief of Police" expressed Rinetti.
Mayor Carol Dutra-Vernaci has known Jared since his early days as a police officer in the field and expressed "I am delighted to welcome and fully support Jared as the City’s next Police Chief. Jared is beloved by our community and is well known for his compassion, professionalism and positive outlook, which are such important values for this community. I have full confidence that UCPD will progress forward under his leadership."
City Manager Tony Acosta stated "I was honored and proud to recommend the appointment of Jared Rinetti to be Union City's 11th Police Chief. Jared is a proven leader with a great reputation and is well-respected by City employees, community stakeholders and his peers in the law enforcement community."
Rinetti's first day on the job is Saturday, December 15, 2018. His compensation and benefits package will include an annual base salary of $231, 672, which is expected to be approved by the City Council at the January 8, 2019 City Council meeting.
