Union City is launching a photography contest open to Union City residents aged 5 years old to 20 years old. The contest will follow the theme, “Why I wear a mask.” With the pandemic continuing to keep the region sheltered-in-place, the City is asking its younger residents to help communicate the importance of wearing a face covering to stop the spread of COVID-19.
Entries will be judged by Don Feria, a freelance editorial and commercial photographer based in the Bay Area. Don is a native to the area, having grown up in Union City.
The first place winner for the contest will receive $100, second place $75, and third place $50. In addition to cash prizes, the top three winners will have their images professionally printed and presented at the Mayor’s annual State of the City address in October. Winning images will also be used in the City’s public service announcements and citywide newsletters during shelter-in-place.
Important deadlines for the contest:
August 17: Contest is open for submissions
September 8 at 6:00 pm: Submission deadline
September 14: Winners announced
October: Winning photos presented at State of the City address
